Diversity and Inclusion

Message from the Chair

- Mike Krangel, Ph.D.

"Duke Immunology strives to provide a diverse and inclusive working and learning environment in which faculty, students, fellows and staff all feel engaged. As chairman, I believe leadership must be open and committed to these goals and must be trusted to be fair and respectful to all. Individuals must feel valued, must feel that their opinion matters, and must feel that they are participating in a working/learning environment that provides opportunities for their professional development. I am committed to fostering an open and inclusive working and learning environment for all stakeholders in the department. I collaborate with the other department leaders to ensure that this philosophy permeates all of our activities and areas of our community.

To this end, Duke Immunology works closely with two important offices within the School of Medicine: the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) and the Office of Biomedical Graduate Diversity (OBGD). Duke Immunology is represented on the ODI Inclusion Council formed by former Dean Nancy Andrews in August 2014. The council meets monthly throughout the year. Duke Immunology faculty enthusiastically partner with OBDG for graduate student recruitment and the support of students once they enroll in graduate training."
